Application Process

Step 1
Review and ensure applicant meet “Criteria for Tenancy”
Criteria for Tenancy
- Must be 65 years old – Couples: youngest applicant must be 65.
- Must be Bermudian.
- Must be able to live independently.
- Must have a “Responsible person” under the age of 65, residing in Bermuda, and agree to provide support should tenancy issues arise.
- Must need low-cost housing as a result of financial need and/or circumstances that warrant a place for accommodation. (1965 BHT Act).
- Must not be the owner, full or in part, or possess life tenancy in any real estate.
- Must not have disposed of any major asset within the last twelve months.
- Must evidence Financial need (proof of income and savings required)
Step 2
Call our office (292-1322) for a pre-screening interview.
The recommended times are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 9:00 am and 2:30 p.m. or Tuesday and Thursday between 12:30 and 2:30 pm. We will review directly with the applicant their specific eligibility and criteria. We recommend the “Responsible person” join in the call to discuss the support they will be expected to provide.
Once satisfied, the BHT Application Form and Tenant Code of Conduct will be emailed to the applicant for completion.
Step 3
Return application submission The completed form/s supporting documentation, and a copy of government issued identification must be returned to BHT (email preferred – [email protected]).
A BHT representative will contact you to advise any further requirements, follow up on additional questions, where required and confirm applicant status.
When a suitable unit becomes available. The applicant will be contacted for a further interview with the committee. The “Next of Kin / Responsible Person is required to attend. The applicant’s current details will be updated, as necessary. Once approved, the applicant will then be invited to view the unit and consider occupancy.
Applicants should note that they are required to ensure that their contact information remains current. Applicants may be removed from the “wait list” if repeated attempts to contact applicant fail.
